Why swipemerge

Your files
stay with you

Contracts, payslips, IDs: the documents people merge are often the most personal ones. swipemerge keeps them on your device, from the first page to the finished PDF.

  • Merged on your deviceYour browser does the work. Nothing is sent, so there is nothing to store or leak.
  • Works in flight modeOnce the page has loaded, merging needs no connection at all.
  • Signatures stay validSigned documents are not merged unless you insist. Please note that merging invalidates their signatures.
  • Original qualityEvery page is copied as it is. Nothing is re‑compressed or watermarked.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is swipemerge really free?

Yes. No account, no trial, no credit card and no watermark. Merge as many files as you like.

Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?

No. swipemerge merges your files with JavaScript inside your browser. Your PDFs are never sent to a server, so there is nothing for us to store, read or delete. You can check: it even works with your internet switched off.

How do I change the order of the pages?

Files are merged top to bottom in the order shown in the list. Drag a file to a new position, or use the arrows next to it. On a phone, press and hold a file to drag it, or use its ⋯ menu.

Is there a file size or file count limit?

There is no fixed limit. Because everything runs on your device, very large files depend on the memory available in your browser. Desktop browsers comfortably handle hundreds of pages.

Does it work on my phone or Mac?

Yes. swipemerge runs in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. There is nothing to install.

What if a file can’t be merged?

Encrypted PDFs are unlocked in your browser automatically, and if one needs a password, swipemerge asks for it right there. Files that are damaged or not real PDFs are named in a notice and left out, so the rest still merge. Digitally signed PDFs are held back on purpose, see the next question.

Why are signed documents not merged right away?

A digital signature does not seal what you see on the page, it seals the exact bytes of the file. When a PDF is signed, a hash of those bytes, a unique digital fingerprint, is calculated and locked into the signature. Merging rewrites the file: the pages are copied into a new document and its internal structure changes. Even a single changed byte produces a completely different fingerprint, so the signature no longer matches and shows as broken. That is why swipemerge holds signed PDFs back. Merge the unsigned documents first, then sign the finished result. If you only need the pages and not a valid signature, choose Continue anyway.
